Crystal jewelry is sturdy enough for daily life and delicate enough to deserve a little ritual of its own. Five habits will keep your pieces bright for years.
The five habits
- Last on, first off. Put jewelry on after perfume, lotion and hair products; take it off before swimming, showering or sleeping.
- Soft cloth, dry wipe. A quick wipe with a dry microfiber cloth after wear removes the oils that dull stones.
- Keep pieces apart. Harder stones scratch softer ones. A fabric-lined box with compartments, or separate pouches, prevents the damage you never notice until it happens.
- Avoid heat and chemicals. Amethyst and rose quartz can fade in prolonged sunlight; anything gold-plated dislikes chlorine and cleaning products.
- Cleanse with intention. Smoke, sound, moonlight on a windowsill — choose a cleansing ritual that feels meaningful to you, once a month or when a piece feels heavy.
Care is not maintenance. It is the same attention you gave the stone when you chose it.
